Few experiences match the quiet awe of looking into the deep amber eyes of a wild mountain gorilla. With roughly 1,000 mountain gorillas left in existence, Uganda protects more than half in the mystical Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
Securing Your Official Gorilla Permits
Permits are strictly regulated by the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) to safeguard the delicate rainforest ecosystem. Only 8 visitors per habituated gorilla family are permitted each day. We recommend securing your permit at least 3 to 6 months in advance through Promote Uganda Safaris.
What to Pack for Bwindi Impenetrable Forest
- Sturdy waterproof hiking boots with strong ankle support and deep tread.
- Long lightweight trousers & tucked socks to protect against stinging nettles and safari ants.
- Gardening gloves to steady yourself on thorny vines along steep ridges.
- Breathable rain jacket — tropical downpours can arrive without warning.
- Camera with high ISO capability (strictly no camera flash is permitted near gorillas).
